Accelerated overlap fermions

Numerical evaluation of the overlap Dirac operator is difficult since it contains the sign function e(Hw) of the Hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator Hw with a negative mass term. The problems are due to Hw having very small eigenvalues on the equilibrium background configurations generated in current day Monte Carlo simulations. Since these are a consequence of the lattice discretization and do not...

UV-filtered overlap fermions

We discuss the kernel spectrum, locality properties and the axial-vector renormalization constant of UV-filtered overlap fermions. We find that UV-filtered overlap fermions have a better conditioned kernel, better locality and an axial-vector renormalization constant closer to 1 than their unfiltered counterparts, even if the shift parameter ρ is simply set to 1.

Truncated Overlap Fermions

After many years of research in lattice QCD, it was possible to formulate QCD with chiral fermions on the lattice [1–4]. The basic idea is an expanded flavor space which may be seen as an extra dimension with left and right handed fermions defined in the two opposite boundaries or walls. Let N be the size of the extra dimension, DW the Wilson-Dirac operator, and m the bare fermion mass. Then, t...

FLIC Overlap Fermions

The action of the overlap-Dirac operator on a vector is typically implemented indirectly through a multi-shift conjugate gradient solver. The compute-time required depends upon the condition number, κ, of the matrix that is used as the overlap kernel. While the Wilson action is typically used as the overlap kernel, the FLIC (Fat Link Irrelevant Clover) action has an improved condition number an...

Overlap for Majorana–weyl Fermions

The power of the overlap formalism is illustrated by regularizing theories based on Majorana-Weyl fermions. The results reported in this contribution were obtained in collaboration with Patrick Huet [1]. More than half of the talk will be independent of the overlap formalism. To present our ideas in the simplest context possible we start directly from an example. Consider a U (1) chiral model, ...
